COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents wishing to honor loved ones can order a Youth Memorial Brick by April 1 for a summer installation (an annual dedication ceremony will follow).  Kenosha News
  • Jacob Blake’s uncle recalled local civil rights icon Jesse Jackson (who supported Chrysler workers in 1988 and stood with the Blake family in 2020) as a guiding force in the community; a summer block party will honor his enduring legacy.  TMJ-4

CULTURE NEWS

  • Searchers announced Friday that Paul Ehorn located the luxury steamer Lac La Belle over 150 years after it sank in a Lake Michigan gale. The wreck was found about 20 miles offshore between Racine and Kenosha in October 2022 (Ehorn started his search in 1965).  WLIP
  • Ella Kohlmeier (a student at St. Joseph Catholic Academy) was crowned Miss Kenosha at the 100th Miss Kenosha Pageant.  Kenosha News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Assembly approved Senate Bill 673 (92-7 vote), which requires schools to set clear policies on staff and student communication and to hold annual training on grooming behaviors; the measure now heads to Gov. Tony Evers for his review amid rising concerns over digital interactions.  Kenosha County Eye
  • The Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission approved relocating Costco’s gasoline fueling facility to an off-site location+ expanding parking spaces for the warehouse, a move aimed at improving access and easing congestion.  Kenosha News

  • Hovde Properties of Madison is proposing to convert the former Schoep’s Ice Cream building into a three-story, 61-unit apartment building (located along Helena Street adjacent to the Capital City Trail) as the project awaits further review.  Kenosha News
