  • Carolynn Friesch, CEO of United Way of Kenosha County, will step down on May 15 after leading the centennial celebration and securing a $200,000 federal grant. The board is now appointing an interim leader and searching for a permanent replacement.  Kenosha County Eye
  • St. Bernard Catholic Church on Atwood Ave suffered severe hail damage last week that cost nearly $2 million, and it will receive a new clay-tile roof to repair the building.  Kenosha News
  • The City of Kenosha will honor four community leaders who died in 2025 and 2026 during Arbor Day programs on Friday, April 24.  Kenosha News

  • John and Melanie Buchaklian opened Hye Ground Cafe at 321 Main St. on Feb. 21—on the former Abrazo Coffee site—to serve a blend of Armenian and Racine flavors to the community.  Kenosha News
  • Entrepreneur Ricardo Lopez has acquired a small brick building near KIN and LakeView Technology Academy, planning to open a cafe offering high-quality coffee & Latin-inspired flavors pending a $15,000 funding request and $12,000 in matching funds.  WGTD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Flooding continues along the Lower Fox River near New Munster as water levels near 15 feet lead to road closures and affect low-lying neighborhoods. Officials urge residents to avoid submerged areas and monitor local updates for safety.  WLIP
  • Kenosha Water Utility diverted diluted wastewater into Lake Michigan — from three sites from 10:40 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday — after heavy rain saturated the system; this follows a similar bypass near 89th Street and 17th Avenue reported days earlier.  Kenosha County Eye

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents in Salem Lakes affected by recent flooding can pick up free well water test kits at Village Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through a partnership with the Kenosha County Department of Health and Human Services.  Kenosha County Eye
