- ➤ Tran has been named long-term president of Gateway Technical College to address local workforce needs, following his role as vice provost at Dallas College’s School of Manufacturing and Industrial Technology (since 2020), and he will partner with local industry to boost skills training. - ➤ Gateway Technical College’s Sabrina Morgan, a respected local youth advocate, will be honored as Distinguished Alumnus at the Leadership Kenosha Graduation Celebration on May 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Circa on Seventh, where + 19 emerging community leaders from 18 organizations will also be recognized. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 21, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources urged residents to avoid outdoor burning as dry weather and storm debris increased fire risks statewide—officials advised using local transfer stations for debris disposal and checking burn restrictions before lighting fires. WLIP
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Heavy rains last week caused a temporary sewer bypass in Kenosha from Friday, Apr. 17 night to Saturday morning to protect homes; crews at three locations managed the controlled flow that reached Lake Michigan, officials said. WLIP
- ➤ Salem Lakes declared a state of emergency after heavy rainfall caused flooding and damage in the community. Kenosha County is offering free well water testing kits at several municipal locations + helping residents check their water quality. TMJ-4
- ➤ Kenosha County and several local communities remain under emergency declarations after last week’s heavy storms caused widespread flooding and property damage. Officials say water levels are slowly receding today, although weakened roads and debris continue to pose risks. WLIP
