COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Kenosha County named former executive David Maurer interim CEO (effective May 18) following CEO Carolynn Friesch's resignation, and the board began a formal search for a permanent leader.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Pleasant Prairie Police will host an annual Bicycle Rodeo on Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at Village Hall (9915 39th Avenue). The free event offers interactive bike safety training, helmet fittings, gear giveaways, and prizes for kids aged 4-11; registration is required by May 13.  Kenosha County Eye
  • A downtown music venue now has a permanent outdoor patio extension license from the City Council Licenses & Permit Committee after neighbors raised concerns about its high volume levels, and this decision lets the venue expand its seating area for patrons.  Kenosha News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bradford High School has been staging its production (The Hello Girls) that tells the story of women who served as bilingual telephone operators during wartime. The show started on April 24 and runs through Sunday.  Kenosha News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KUSD (Kenosha Unified School District) has been recognized for its music education programs by receiving the BCME Award from the NAMM Foundation for the 12th consecutive year. The accolade underscores strong local support for quality school music experiences.  Kenosha.com
  • Kenosha Unified’s government and politics classes focus on teaching how government works and encouraging respectful debate. Coordinator Che Kearby explained on WGTD’s Civic Affairs on Apr. 29 that the classes also prepare students to pass the state civics exam.  WGTD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kenosha Fire Department will hold a live burn training exercise Friday, May 8 at a home on the 2200 block of 57th Street, starting at 7 a.m. with live fire drills at 9 a.m. and a final burn at 2 p.m. Road closures in the area may affect traffic.  WLIP

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local bowling icon Bob Larson, a key figure for nearly 70 years in Kenosha's bowling scene, will be inducted into the United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame soon as a tribute to his lifelong passion and success in the sport.  TMJ-4
