  • United Way of Kenosha County announced that CEO Carolynn Friesch (serving since 2021) will resign, and the nonprofit will soon start its search for a new leader.  Kenosha News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kenosha Unified School District was honored on April 30 for winning its 12th Best Communities for Music Education Award. The recognition reflects the district’s continued investment in quality music programs that boost creativity and academic success.  WLIP
  • The Kenosha Unified School District installed metal detectors (costing over $473,000) in April after incidents spurred safety concerns among parents; some locals say funds might be better spent on academic resources. Milwaukee Public Schools added metal detectors at all middle and high schools to boost student safety.  TMJ-4
  • At the April 28 meeting, Kenosha Unified officials said they will ask voters for a new referendum in November — a move driven by budget strain and falling enrollment after a $115 million plan was rejected. The district is looking for fresh solutions to its funding challenges.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Students at all six high schools began using CEIA OpenGate metal detectors on Thursday morning to boost security after recent incidents raised concerns. The district spent nearly $473,500 from general funds on the new systems to help keep students safe.  TMJ-4

HEALTH NEWS

  • County health officials extended free well-testing services through May 8 for residents with flood-affected private wells to ensure safe drinking water. Free test kits are available at government offices and village halls including the Kenosha County Center in Bristol.  Kenosha County Eye
