COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Racine’s Miss Wisconsin, Willow Newell, will pass her title on June 20th after a busy reign while newspaper writers in Kenosha and Racine continue to press for a living wage. The Kenosha Fire Department will hold a live fire training exercise in Uptown today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  WGTD
  • The Wade family of Kenosha will share their recovery journey with help from Children's Wisconsin (presented by Mars Family Foundation) at the upcoming Miracle Marathon.  Kenosha News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Middle with Jeremy Hobson, a national call-in show, will record a program at the Pritzker Military Museum and Library (County ‘E’ in Somers) next Tuesday evening. The program will focus on veterans’ mental health and airs Thursdays on WGTD; tickets are available online.  WGTD
  • UW–Parkside’s theatre program earned national recognition when its production of Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play was selected for the American College Theatre Festival Region Three showcase in Madison earlier this year, and students and faculty earned awards including graduating senior Mark Warden + mask designer Alyssa Ritacca.  WLIP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kenosha Unified School District seeks community members for a committee to propose new names for Chavez Learning Station (6300 27th Ave) after local concerns. Submit letters by May 20; meetings are on June 2 and 4 at the Educational Support Center, with proposals sent to the board on June 23.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Thirty-three high school students from Kenosha and Racine have been named to receive more than $500,000 in scholarships, with the awards set to support their college plans.  Kenosha News
  • Kenosha Unified School District celebrated employees reaching 35 and 40 years of service during Recognition Week on May 7. The ceremony recognized long careers of teachers, support staff and administrators who dedicated themselves to students and families in the community.  Kenosha County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers using Sheridan will face a two-week closure as crews replace streetcar tracks at 56th St beginning June 12th & a public meeting is scheduled Monday at 5 p.m. at the city bus barn on 39th Ave to discuss detours.  WGTD
  • County Public Health said residents in flood-affected areas can receive free well water testing until the end of May, with kits available during business hours at sites such as the County Center in Bristol & Public Health offices at the Job Center on Sheridan Road.  Kenosha County Eye
  • On May 6, the city commended residents for keeping properties and alleyways clear as the growing season began in Kenosha. City inspectors reminded owners to keep grass under eight inches, clear weeds and debris, and trim tree branches over sidewalks for safety and emergency access.  WLIP
