COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local officials are busy shaping our future as two community representatives join the 25-member committee to select the next UW president and the Building Commission meets Wednesday to review 71 state-funded development projects. In other news, Uline delays its planned warehouse construction west of the interstate until 2027 or later.  WGTD
  • On Friday, the Kenosha Prince Hall Masons donated $1,000 to Kenosha Joint Services 911 dispatchers to help revitalize their quiet room for mental health support. The donation will be made annually during Telecommunicators Appreciation Week.  TMJ-4
  • Denise Derdeyn was honored April 30 in a packed ceremony as she received Kenosha County’s Connie Reyes Award for Excellence in Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention – the accolade highlights her commitment to protecting children.  Kenosha News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wilmot's Riverport Chorus won the 2026 Audience Choice Bravo Award at the Region 3 Midwest Harmony Competition & Convention held in Milwaukee earlier this month. The chorus, which performed in the Open Division with multiple songs & emcee work, earned its second straight honor.  Kenosha County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kenosha Unified School Board approved a new policy (guiding AI use) along with revised policies on law enforcement procedures and teaching loads to shape classroom practices.  Kenosha News
  • KUSD is asking community members to suggest a new name for Chavez Learning Center following public calls for change after a 2026 investigation into its legacy. A committee will review proposals in early June and submissions must be sent by May 20 — by mail, email or drop-off.  WLIP
  • Kenosha County and United Way officials celebrated the opening of the Born Learning Trail at Fox River Park on May 2, where interactive stations help young children learn through play and boost literacy, language, and social skills.  Kenosha County Eye
  • During Recognition Week 2026, KUSD hosted surprise Spark Awards ceremonies to honor staff for exemplifying district values and supporting students, families and colleagues. The events recognized outstanding service across district schools.  Kenosha News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kenosha Fire Department conducted a controlled burn training exercise at 2214 57th St on Friday afternoon to help firefighters practice safe burn management + techniques.  Kenosha News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kenosha County Public Health is offering free well water testing for residents impacted by recent flooding through the end of May. Eligible residents may pick up test kits at village halls & the Kenosha County Center in Bristol, with water samples collected every Tuesday at 3 p.m. and additional weekday drop-offs at the Job Center on Sheridan Road.  WLIP

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Kenosha County’s Register of Deeds Office recorded its 2,000,000th real estate document, doubling filings since one million was reached in 1995.  Kenosha News
