  • Hundreds of people gathered Saturday in Bristol to celebrate the grand opening of the Hansen Park Beer Garden, a family-friendly venue launched by the team behind the Petrifying Springs Biergarten. Guests enjoyed live music by Brecken Miles and Bills Garner, comfort food like Sicilian pizza and brats, and craft beers served in reusable aluminum cups—this venue will operate on a regular schedule.  Kenosha County Eye

  • Jury selection begins today in Kenosha — the criminal trial of three former caregivers from Parkside Manor will address charges stemming from a $4 million civil verdict after 89-year-old Helen Ende froze to death when staff failed to notice she had wandered outside.  Kenosha County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal officials rejected a compact amendment—one that would lower state payments and extend deal terms—removing a barrier for the Menominee Tribe’s plan to build a $360 million casino on 60 acres west of Interstate 94 in Kenosha. The project is now under an environmental review and will need Gov. Tony Evers’ approval before it can move forward.  Kenosha News
  • Peter Barca, a 69-year-old Kenosha public servant who served as a teacher, state representative, congressman, and state Revenue Department Secretary, appeared in the first episode of WGTD’s new Saturday program Civic Affairs—highlighting his view that politics is a natural extension of wanting to help people. The program airs the third Saturday of every month between 10 and 10:30.  WGTD
