COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Memorial Day events will take place across the county this holiday weekend with ceremonies and parades scheduled from Saturday at Somers to Monday at Navy Park and venues in Twin Lakes, Silver Lake, and Pleasant Prairie — participants are advised to check with coordinators for specific timings.  WLIP
  • Bill Hopkins, a U.S. Navy veteran, was named 2026 Kenosha County veteran of the year for decades of military, civic + volunteer service in western Kenosha County. The award honors his ongoing contributions to the community.  Kenosha News
  • The Kenosha Public Library Foundation announced a landscaping renovation project at Simmons Library — a historic landmark donated by Zalmon Simmons — to boost its historic design and spark talks of future redevelopment. The work will start this month and finish by July, with community planning set for 2027.  Kenosha County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kenosha school leaders joined state districts in urging lawmakers to reopen talks on special education funding after warning delays could shift spending from general education. They backed a plan (raising reimbursements to 42 percent next school year and 50 percent the following year) and urged action to prevent higher costs.  WLIP
  • Kenosha Bradford High School selected nineteen seniors to receive a total of $50,973 in scholarships from the Alumni Association announced today, recognizing the students' academic achievements. The awards help support their educational goals.  Kenosha News
  • Lieutenant Governor visited Shoreland to highlight the $500 grant awarded to Shoreland Lutheran High School from the National Lt. Governors STEM Scholarship Program, which will support additional science and math programs.  Kenosha News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kenosha Water Utility began fire hydrant flushing on Monday, May 18 for system maintenance in areas north of 60th Street and near the lakefront (residents may notice cloudy water and should run their lowest faucet for about five minutes to clear lines).  Kenosha County Eye

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Two hearings will be held Thursday at the Kenosha Plan Commission, one on a seven story 212 unit building with retail at 6th Ave and 54th St and another on an 11 building 240 unit Breeze Landing complex with a fitness center and clubhouse.  WGTD
