COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Kenosha County are invited to join Bike-to-Work Weeks starting Saturday, May 31 and running until Saturday, June 14. Daily contest entries offer prizes like bike gear, themed clothing and attraction passes, and the event concludes with the Dairy Air Bike Ride—a 28.2-mile round-trip ride from Veterans Memorial Park to Mighty Grand Dairy Farm in Brighton departing at 7 a.m. on June 14.  Kenosha County Eye

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a structure fire at a side-by-side condominium complex at 2209 11th St. Tuesday morning, working several hours to extinguish heavy flames in the western unit while evacuating neighboring units as a precaution—no injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.  WLIP

CRIME NEWS

  • A half-million-dollar bond was set for 70-year-old Genoa City man John Viskocil, who is accused of first degree intentional homicide for shooting 47-year-old David Vanderzee in his Powers Lake home in 2003; his co-defendant Roxanna Collins, accused of joining in the killing and now held in McHenry, will face a preliminary hearing (next Friday).  WGTD
  • Epstein D. Scott, a 49-year-old repeat offender from Kenosha—currently in jail—was charged on May 29 with felony criminal damage to property and misdemeanor entry into a locked coin box after he smashed a laundromat coin machine with a fire extinguisher on April 17 and took about $50 in coins.  Kenosha County Eye
  • A Silver Lake couple faces felony charges after an alleged robbery at a BP gas station last December—Kelly M. Stankus, 49, is charged with armed robbery with threat of force while her live-in boyfriend, Jason G. Strelow, 49, is charged with harboring a felon and they will appear in Kenosha County Circuit Court on June 26.  Kenosha County Eye
  • John Viskocil, 70, of Randall appeared in Kenosha County court on May 28 after being accused of helping plan the 2003 execution-style murder of Navy veteran David Vanderzee — his bond was set at $500K.  Kenosha County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kenosha Unified School Board approved cutting nearly 43 full‐time positions on Tuesday to remove $4.7 million in staffing costs from the 2025 to 2026 school year budget & put several budget items on hold as enrollment declined and state aid lagged. The cuts follow a failed referendum that would have increased annual funding by $23 million.  WLIP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers, survivors, and advocates met Tuesday in Madison for a Senate Health Committee hearing on Gail’s Law— a bipartisan bill introduced by Rep. Amanda Nedweski that would require insurers to cover supplemental breast cancer screenings for women with dense breast tissue. The measure aims to close an insurance gap that forces many Wisconsin women to pay over $1,000 out-of-pocket while keeping premium increases minimal.  Kenosha County Eye
