COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kenoshans attended a weekend kite festival at Kennedy Park where professionals and hobbyists flew dozens of bright, large kites on Saturday and Sunday. The event brought people of all ages together to enjoy the lakefront with vivid displays in the sky — marking a colorful celebration.  Kenosha News

CRIME NEWS

  • Oscar Giovan Fonseca, a 26 year old Kenosha man, is held on $100,000 cash bail after prosecutors say he robbed Chase Bank last week—allegedly driven by anger over a home foreclosure.  Kenosha County Eye
  • A 40-year-old man from Chicago Heights was held on $25,000 cash bail Monday after allegedly driving impaired on I-94 — he is accused of resisting officers and making racial slurs and violent threats toward both law enforcement and medical staff.  Kenosha County Eye
  • On June 6, a 41-year-old Kenosha woman was arrested for allegedly attacking her elderly mother during a domestic dispute on the 4700 block of 22nd Avenue and now faces five criminal counts including elder abuse and bail jumping—bail was set at $20,000 and she remains in custody.  Kenosha County Eye
  • An 18-year-old Illinois man is facing felony charges—he allegedly caused a high-speed crash in Salem Lakes on Friday that left one man in critical condition and killed a family dog.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Less than a month after finishing a jail sentence for corruption, former Pleasant Prairie Public Works Director John Steinbrink Jr. asked for early termination of his probation — but Judge Anthony Milisauskas denied his request — citing that it was not in the public interest.  Kenosha County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seniors of the Class of 2025 claimed their diplomas on Saturday during commencement exercises held in the gymnasium at Westosha Central High School in Paddock Lake—marking the completion of their studies.  Kenosha News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Kenosha will end its spring curbside compost collection this week — residents with yard waste should use the self-service compost site at 4071 88th Avenue, which remains open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until November.  Kenosha County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office added a new K9 unit when it introduced K9 Kane—partnered with Deputy Tyler Brady, who was hired on Sept. 10, 2018—and Kane is expected to assist with drug detection, tracking, and suspect apprehension.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Kenosha County will dissolve its Opioid Settlement Advisory Panel after finishing its research on how to best use pharmaceutical settlement funds—its recommendations will shift to community partnerships focused on services that reduce overdose deaths and address needs like housing, transportation and job assistance. County Executive Samantha Kerkman said the change comes as early signs show improvement in the opioid crisis.  WLIP
