  • 100+ Women Who Care Kenosha will host its quarterly meeting on Tuesday, August 12 at the Woman’s Club of Kenosha, 6028 8th Ave., where online registration closes 24 hours before the event and walk-ins begin at 5 p.m.; women will donate based on age to nominate local nonprofits and support community groups that have received over $271,000 in past donations.  Kenosha.com
  • Picnic in the Park returns to Petrifying Springs Park on August 16 with activities starting at 4 p.m. near the Biergarten — fireworks will light up the sky at dusk.  Kenosha News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 22-year-old Kenosha woman—Alexandria Nicole Buis—was charged with both felony and misdemeanor counts after she allegedly kicked a police officer and threatened to kill her mother during a mental health crisis at her court appearance on August 8.  Kenosha County Eye
  • A man aged 30 from Kenosha—Jacob A. Morzfeld—is accused of attacking a former classmate near Simmons Island on July 27 and stealing cash during the incident; he appeared in court on August 8 and was held on $15,000 bail with a preliminary hearing set for August 12.  Kenosha County Eye
  • A 39-year-old Kenosha registered sex offender was jailed on August 8 after he cut off his GPS monitor and stopped reporting his whereabouts—prosecutors said he had a long history of not following state registry rules.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Kenosha police arrested 37-year-old Nicholas S. Ocana, a man with a felony record, after witnesses called 911 on August 7 when they saw his barefoot, bleeding girlfriend being dragged into a 60th Street garage and a trail of bright red blood led officers to her plus Ocana became combative and now faces charges of criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct with a preliminary hearing set for September 17.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Pleasant Prairie police charged 34-year-old Illinois man Drashawn J. Griffen with domestic abuse for allegedly strangling his girlfriend, threatening her with a knife, and carrying rat poison intended to kill them both — he appeared in Kenosha County Circuit Court Friday where bail was set at $20,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 15.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Kelly M. Shondel, 46, from California, appeared in Kenosha court on Aug. 7—bail was set at $750K on a first-degree reckless homicide charge linked to a 2022 overdose death.  Kenosha County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Retired K9 Riggs, a decorated German Shepherd who served with Sergeant Terry Tifft, died Friday and was honored when Governor Tony Evers signed the K9 Riggs Act into law to impose tougher penalties for harming law enforcement animals—ensuring his service remains a lasting part of our community. The new law makes such acts a felony and solidifies ongoing efforts to protect our public safety.  Kenosha County Eye
