  • Union members from the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters staged a protest at the Karrick Apartments in downtown Kenosha—accusing subcontractor Suburban Drywall of wage theft and worker misclassification. They said these practices cost taxpayers $165 million a year by denying overtime pay and benefits, and city officials have not yet responded.  Kenosha County Eye

  • A 24-year-old woman from Wheatland was arrested Wednesday after she choked—punched and threatened her mother while intoxicated and locked herself in a room with her toddler.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Three men face misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct charges after a fight outside the Thirsty Horse Pub and Grill in Bristol earlier this year—arrest warrants were issued Thursday for Chase Conley of Mount Pleasant, Juan Albarran of Zion, and Ruben Hernandez of Beach Park.  Kenosha County Eye

  • Punk band Die Monster Die — known for their gloomy rock sound — has played in Kenosha for over 41 years and is set to perform at The Port soon.  Kenosha News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jonathan Barker, a Kenosha pastor known for his social and environmental advocacy, resigned from Grace Lutheran Church on Aug. 14 to avoid a conflict with his church and will endorse Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for president—he asked that his name be removed from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America clergy roster. He is searching for a new venue to preach his planned sermon this Sunday.  WGTD
  • Attorney for convicted felon Trenton Kmiec requested on August 13 that District Attorney Xavier Solis be removed from his case—citing a bias linked to Solis's relationship with publisher Kevin Mathewson—and that a special prosecutor be appointed from another county. Assistant State Public Defender Benjamin Schwarz filed the 21-page motion, and the challenge is expected to face an uphill battle.  Kenosha County Eye
