  • At the Sharing Center in Salem Lakes, shelves of backpacks, shoes, and school supplies help rural families handle long drives and tight budgets — the center also offers free rides, home delivery, and curbside pickup. CRIME NEWS

  • Tyler A. Remus, a 34-year-old Village of Somers Public Works employee, was charged with felony intimidation—an allegation related to domestic abuse—after an incident at his home on August 20.  Kenosha County Eye
  • A 9-year-old was injured Tuesday after accessing a firearm at the home of a Kenosha police member—officials said the gun was in a locked safe and not a duty weapon, and the child suffered minor hand injuries.  TMJ-4
  • A 50-year-old Illinois man was charged in Kenosha County on August 20 after a state trooper spotted him walking along Interstate 94 near Highway 50 — authorities later recovered a small bag of fentanyl and a glass pipe with drug residue from his wallet.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Jaime Salazar Jr., 25, of Kenosha faced court yesterday for disorderly conduct and misdemeanor battery after allegedly assaulting his cousin—his extensive criminal record loomed over the proceedings.  Kenosha County Eye

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Schütz Container Systems celebrated the opening of its new $166M production facility in Kenosha on Sunday. The 370,000-square-foot plant is set to create 185 jobs over five years and the company plans to add a reconditioning facility this fall—boosting sustainable manufacturing in the area.  WLIP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scott Hodges resigned from the school district on July 22, ending years of trouble over a secret charter plan and reports of a teacher not protecting students—critics said he did not act quickly enough. His departure ends a long period of questions about his leadership.  Kenosha County Eye

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials broke ground in Somers Tuesday on a six-phase project led by UW-Parkside to reduce stormwater pollution in the Pike River Watershed—officials say the project will improve water quality in the area. The plan will be implemented in phases to benefit local residents.  Kenosha News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The city of Kenosha will host blood drives beginning Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the Kenosha Museum—part of a Big Ten competition that runs until Dec. 5 to help ease the blood shortage and support UW-Madison. Donors who register will receive a limited-edition Wisconsin T-shirt while supplies last.  WLIP
