- ➤ Roughly 500 people attended the centennial celebration of the historic Kenosha County Courthouse on Sunday, where officials including County Executive Samantha Kerkman held speeches and hosted an open house, musical performances, and an ice cream social—honoring the building's one hundred years of service. - ➤ Rick Phillips, a longtime labor leader, was named 2025 Labor Person of the Year by the Kenosha AFL-CIO Council after unanimous delegate approval. He will be honored at Laborfest on Sept. 1 at Pennoyer Park Bandshell with a short program at 12:30 p.m.—a planned event supported by local unions and the City. WLIP

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 20-year-old Kenosha man was charged with eight misdemeanor counts after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend twice this month—on August 10 he slapped, dragged, and broke her phone, and on August 26 he smashed her windshield with a brick and pinned her by the neck until relatives intervened. - ➤ A 26-year-old Kenosha man already in jail, Joshua J. Meeks, faces two new felony charges—burglary and firearm theft—linked to a string of crimes allegedly committed on the same day earlier this year. Kenosha County Eye
- ➤ Kenosha police charged Kelly Shondel, 46, with first degree reckless homicide for her alleged role in a 2022 fatal overdose—detectives say her texts linked her to the drug purchase before the man’s death and she will attend a preliminary hearing on Oct. 8. Kenosha News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Herzing University Kenosha helps local students train in nursing, healthcare, behavioral health, business, and technology for in-demand jobs—fall classes start September 3. Students enjoy small class sizes and online options that build strong ties with local employers. Kenosha.com
- ➤ The Kenosha Unified School Board approved a plan on Tuesday to add more teacher preparation time for the 2026-27 school year by hiring nine library media teachers at elementary schools and reducing high school class periods. The change will boost weekly non-contact time to 611 minutes for elementary teachers and 719 minutes for high school teachers—costing $910,000 and $2.55 million and prompting the board to direct administration to create a prep time policy. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The city of Kenosha will open bids Friday to demolish several former school buildings for new single-family homes—with Lincoln expected to be the main candidate—and neighborhood discussions with residents and the school district will guide the process.
