BUSINESS NEWS

  • Snap-on celebrated its 105th anniversary in Kenosha today with a lively block party at its corporate headquarters—Chairman and CEO Nick Pinchuk delivered remarks as live music and food trucks entertained guests.  Kenosha News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 14-year-old girl died after she was fatally struck by a vehicle in the 1900 block of 52nd Street in Kenosha shortly after 8 p.m. Friday—police are investigating the incident.  Kenosha News
  • A 29-year-old Kenosha man was arrested this week after more than two years on the run for felony domestic abuse charges—he is accused of choking the mother of his children.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Peter Albert Torres, 21, of Texas—already convicted of a violent felony—escaped custody while receiving medical care in Pleasant Prairie on Sept. 6 and now faces nine new charges, authorities said.  Kenosha County Eye

FINANCE NEWS

  • Wisconsin residents have won the Powerball jackpot eight times since 2003 — including Manuel Franco’s $768 million win in West Allis in 2019 — and Saturday’s drawing offered an estimated $1.8 billion jackpot with odds of 292,201,338 to 1.  Kenosha News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, Kenosha County Sheriff David Zoerner announced that the sheriff’s office will not join the federal 287(g) program, which would have allowed deputies to enforce immigration laws under ICE oversight—he said the decision was based on a review of potential benefits for local taxpayers. The office will continue to cooperate with ICE and monitor the program for any future changes.  TMJ-4
  • Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge Chad Kerkman tried to use his power to force the Kenosha County Eye to change an article about his court photography rules on Friday—he sent a notarized letter demanding parts be removed. Publisher Kevin Mathewson refused to alter the story, marking the second time a judge has attempted to curb the media after a similar incident in September 2024.  Kenosha County Eye
  • A Kenosha judge said DA Xavier Solis missed hearings and left cases delayed due to low staffing—Solis later said he has hired new prosecutors and will update the committee next month while his focus remains on prosecuting criminals.  Kenosha News

  • Mecca MMA gym — a mixed martial arts academy that offers kickboxing, jiu-jitsu and other fighting styles — opened its doors in early August in Kenosha.  Kenosha News
