COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Franks Diner, which is technically 100 years old but celebrates a 99th anniversary, will host a block party on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.—the event will feature games, live music, a Kevin look-alike contest, and special food items while supporting the Boys and Girls Club.  Kenosha News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Pleasant Prairie man—Aaron M. Donson, 24—has been charged with felony theft after he allegedly stole more than $1,000 in Nike shoes from Kohl’s with two accomplices in Kenosha County on Sept 7.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Five Illinois men were charged in a sealcoat fraud scheme that defrauded Pleasant Prairie homeowners—authorities said the group crossed state lines to perform driveway work.  Kenosha County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State Superintendent Jill Underly visited Mahone Middle School on Friday to kick off the new academic year by celebrating student-led environmental projects—efforts that focus on protecting nature.  Kenosha News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County Executive Samantha Kerkman defunded the weekend drafting program and ordered that the DA’s investigator not carry his gun in the courthouse—joining forces with ex-husband Judge Chad Kerkman to challenge District Attorney Xavier Solis ahead of upcoming re-election campaigns while slowing court processes.  Kenosha County Eye
  • The Racine Common Council approved a rail commission for the Milwaukee-Area-Racine-Kenosha region, but the councils of Kenosha and Milwaukee have yet to consider the proposal (awaiting further review).  Kenosha News
  • A former Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department employee with severe diabetes is preparing to sue the county for alleged life-threatening medical neglect during her 60-day incarceration for a second OWI offense—her condition worsened into diabetic ketoacidosis and led to several hospitalizations as the jail failed to provide proper care.  Kenosha County Eye

HEALTH NEWS

  • Froedtert South Hospital System and Carthage College are launching a new partnership in Kenosha—designed to boost the healthcare workforce by expanding nursing and patient care opportunities for students who will gain hands-on training.  Kenosha News
