COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Military veterans, service members and their families are invited to a free climbing event at Boundless Adventures in Bristol Woods Park on Sept. 19. Climbing sessions will run from 3:30 to 10 p.m.—with the final start at 7:30 p.m.—and a 6 p.m. ceremony will honor military service while civilians can join for $45 with advance registration required.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Dick’s Roof Repair named Bob and Alisha Sheriff as this year’s Free Roof Award winners, recognizing the active duty Army service members who recently became new homeowners. The couple, nominated by neighbors after a leaking roof threatened their home, will receive a new roof—an affirmation of the company’s ongoing support for local heroes.  Kenosha.com
  • The popular Old Settlers Oktoberfest returned to Paddock Lake—kicking off its season in Kenosha County after a one-year break and drawing large crowds.  Kenosha News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 53-year-old Kenosha woman faces felony charges for allegedly shoving a 74-year-old neighbor during a dispute over a dog crate crossing her yard, which caused a brain bleed and required hospitalization—bail was set at $2,500 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 12.  Kenosha County Eye

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Italian American Society of Kenosha will host the inaugural Kenosha Italian Fest on September 20 and 21 at Celebration Place on the lakefront. The two-day event will feature authentic Italian cuisine, live music, a walking parade, cooking demonstrations, and fireworks — a celebration of Kenosha’s rich Italian heritage — for family fun and community spirit.  Kenosha.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, Kenosha County Sheriff David Zoerner said his office would not join the ICE 287(g) program because of concerns about taxpayer costs and the program’s rapid changes. He said his department will continue to share information with ICE as required by law and will reexamine its participation if conditions change while 24 inmates with ICE detainers remain in jail.  WLIP
  • On Monday night, Kenosha officials discussed plans to demolish four former school buildings—K-R Contractors would remove Lincoln Elementary and New Berlin Grading would demolish McKinley and Washington Middle schools, with part of the McKinley site planned for a park and new single-family homes while a section of the Lincoln property will serve as parking for KTEC.  WGTD
