COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A community clean-up and kite festival will take over Lincoln Park on Saturday, Sept. 27 with trash pick-up starting at 10 a.m. and kite activities, including professional demonstrations set to music, free kites for kids, and complimentary local food & custard, will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Kenosha County Eye

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Microsoft announced it will build the second phase of its Mt. Pleasant data center for about $4 billion and complete it by the end of 2028. The project will hire 800 workers while thousands of construction workers remain busy and Gateway Technical College offers a training certificate for future Microsoft jobs — a key step in the expanding local business effort.  WGTD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kenosha astronomer Hasan Khalil restored a rare Celestron C14 Tricolor telescope from the 1970s that was recovered from the Racine Astronomical Society’s observatory last fall. He spent weeks verifying its history with old catalogs—confirming it is the only known prototype—while the society will host an open house on September 27 for community members to view the restored telescope.  TMJ-4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Circuit Judge Chad Kerkman drew fresh controversy when he banned a court-certified interpreter for returning late from another hearing—he also berated a commissioner, leaving them in tears and prompting legal insiders to warn that his actions could worsen court delays.  Kenosha County Eye
  • U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil is accepting nominations for the 2025 First Congressional District Veteran of the Year Award to honor a local veteran for outstanding service in Southeast Wisconsin—eligible nominees must be district residents, honorably discharged from the military, and provide a DD-214. Nominations will be accepted online until October 20.  Kenosha County Eye
  • Mayor Bogdala announced a trial program in Uptown to update older neighborhoods and help business owners refresh storefronts using repurposed redevelopment funds; the city council approved funding this week. He also said Kenosha’s housing platform CityWise has helped over 10,000 people find safe apartments and now lists 3,500 units — with other cities including Milwaukee adopting the model.  WLIP
