- ➤ Jerry Smith Farm celebrated its 50-year anniversary with a presentation on Saturday at its location—7510 18th St. in Somers. Kenosha News
- ➤ Hospice Alliance will host its annual Serving Our Seniors Expo at Gateway Technical College—Madrigrano Conference Center on October 9 from 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m., where seniors from Kenosha, Racine, and nearby areas will receive free resources from more than 50 service providers, free health screenings, and COVID-19 and flu vaccinations if insured. Attendees will also be entered in a raffle drawing for a signature lottery tree. Kenosha.com

- ➤ Gavin and Dawson have been best friends since kindergarten and now work together at Tremper High School—Gavin leads the girls’ Powderpuff football team while overcoming early autism challenges as doctors once warned he might not be fully included. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Work has been underway to fix Lamparek Creek near the Microsoft data center after it was changed for farming. The $4 million project will plant native plants and return the creek to a more natural flow — a key part of a larger plan to restore the Pike River. WGTD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Sept. 29, 2025, the Kenosha County Housing Task Force told the Kenosha County Council of Governments it had spent nearly a year forming three work groups—promotions and communication, planning, zoning, and design standards, and financial tools—to address the housing shortage while planning an Oct. 29 workshop on how zoning affects housing and economic growth in the Village of Somers auditorium. - ➤ KENOSHA, Wis. — The City of Kenosha will run its fall curbside compostables collection from Oct. 6 to Nov. 29, and residents must use city-approved biodegradable bags such as Bag To Nature, BioBag or Ecoguard for collection. The city also offers $2 bag coupons at public works offices and select retailers to help cover costs. Kenosha County Eye
- ➤ The City of Kenosha pressed ahead with plans to demolish four vacant school buildings despite social media criticism, opting to remove Washington Middle, McKinley, and Lincoln schools because design issues and asbestos made them unfit for conversion. The city will request proposals from developers for the Washington and McKinley sites while using the Lincoln site for parking and a pickup and dropoff loop for LakeView K8 Academy (the public will have a chance to comment on some plans). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Olu Afuwape, a 37-year-old soccer referee, collapsed during the University of Wisconsin-Parkside home opener against Upper Iowa on September 14 and was saved by quick CPR and defibrillation by teammates and staff—he is now recovering at home. TMJ-4
