COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tammy Conforti, who led the effort to build the million-dollar Dream Playground 10 years ago, now volunteers in other towns to create similar accessible play areas. She recently presided over an anniversary celebration at Petzke Park and values the energy of people coming together—her passion continues to guide community projects.  WGTD
  • Kenosha Dream Playground marked 10 years on the northside—where children of all abilities enjoy safe, inclusive play on well-loved equipment.  Kenosha News
  • Kenosha’s interfaith coalition CUSH is celebrating 25 years of promoting social and environmental justice and will mark the milestone with a dinner on Oct. 23 at The Vault downtown. Leaders Grant Pitts and Karen Kempinen say the event will empower more citizens to join the group’s mission—supported by a synagogue and nine churches.  WGTD
  • The Kenosha Salvation Army will host its first fundraising event to celebrate 135 years of service, marking a milestone since it opened in 1890—just 40 years after the city was founded. The event is planned to support the nonprofit’s ongoing community programs.  Kenosha News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Kenosha’s curbside compostable items collection program began Monday, Oct. 6 and runs through Saturday, Nov. 29, requiring residents to use city-approved biodegradable bags—Bag To Nature, BioBag, or Ecoguard—to ensure pickup. Residents must place bags at the curb between 6:30 p.m. the day before collection and 6 a.m. on collection day with a limit of 40 lbs and can use a coupon for $2 off each box at local retailers.  Kenosha.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Kenosha and the Kenosha Professional Police Association reached a tentative three-year contract agreement — following a collaborative negotiation process — and the deal was set for approval by the City Finance Committee and Common Council yesterday. The agreement also extends benefits to the Kenosha Police Supervisory Officers Association.  WLIP
